Runnymede Trust Community Project of the Year – Pop Up Festival of Stories
The Pop up festival of stories collected their award from Rob Berkley, Managing Director of the Runnymede Trust
Pop Up Projects (CIC) has developed a groundbreaking programme: ‘Pop Up Festival of Stories’, a new festival aimed at connecting people through literature and story-making.
The Pop Up model engages from grassroots upwards, working in diverse schools and deprived communities, delivering programmes of events and activities that reflect and resonate with diverse identities, cultures and heritages. The aim of the Pop Up model is to build new audiences for literature, leading to more cohesive and literate communities inspired by an enjoyment of stories. Diversity is at the heart of Pop Up’s mission. In order to build a Festival for London, and for Londoners, Pop Up must capture new young audiences who reflect the ethnic and economic diversity of the capital. Today’s young readers and story-makers are diverse in every sense, and nowhere is this more so than in the King’s Cross area. It is essential for social inclusion that their stories are heard.
